Well, considering you can mod a WRT54G to do just about anything I would say so. You can mod a WRT54G to be outside even add LCD screens to monitor network traffic it is really insane. Check out my WRT54G page for more info and if you have any questions let me know!

If you want to bridge two Ethernet segments together, the cheapest????and easiest way is to use 2 WRT-54G’s running in WDS
mode with Sveasoft Alchemy or Talisman-Basic software.

There are lot of different options and ideas when it comes to what hacking is. Here is the definition of hacking from wikipedia. Pretty much hacking is reverse engineering something to make it do what you want or to make it better.

When it comes to the WRT54g all of the work is done for you because it is a GPL device, that means all of the source code used in it is made public!

????You can easily mod your wrt54g router simply, I recommend replacing your firmware first! By replacing your firmware you will allow your router to function way beyond its factory specs.

Here is a list of alternative firmwares:

• The Official one(pretty nice, but doesn’t allow telnet over device )
• Sveasoft(the infamous weaked GPL one)
• EWRT(sveasoft + nocat -> hotspot)
• Wifi-box (hum not tested yet)
• openWRT(minimal setup without http)
• MeshBoxKit(openWRT + OLSR, special for Meshing)
